Rouleau Wood Turning

My interest and love of working with wood began in 1985. I started selling the next year and have not stopped since. I love the honesty and surprises the material presents. These attributes have kept my interest for the past 35 years.

The material from my work is found. It comes from building sites and old logged areas etc. I select the pieces in the large log or burl form so that I have complete creative latitude. The turned pieces are all done green from start to finish; turned once to finished thickness and allowed to dry naturally, then hand sanded and a finish is applied. I prefer this method of working. During the drying process the piece will change shape slightly and acquire a texture all of its own. Most pieces take only 1-2 weeks to dry. Other pieces; boxes, ornaments etc. are done using air-dried material selected for grain and colour.
